Jessica
This is something that a pedestrian friends of mine had wanted to see in EVs. I wonder if they are going to retrofit older vehicles. https://electrek.co/2019/09/10/tesla-pedestrian-warning-system-model-3/
Dan Holtz
This is kind of a joke to me, at low speeds most modern day cars are just as quiet as an EV yet they are not required to be louder. Other than coming up behind someone in a parking lot I have yet to encounter someone that doesn't notice me that is not already preoccupied with their cell phone. Jessica
That's true. I just find it odd that it's suddenly becoming a thing. It's been how many years now since the first EV?
Dan Holtz
I think the law was signed a number of years ago, I would have to google around to find out when but it required all EV's to start having them by some date around now. Jessica
I vaguely remember that being in the article. The silly part to me is that how many older vehicles are there that won't have this noise maker. And it looks like they are only adding to the 3 at this point and not the S or X. Vexar
Press the push-to-talk button on your Tesla, say "play dubstep" and then roll the windows down. All the older Tesla vehicles should have the milling noise by now so this isn't a problem, all around.
Jessica
Which milling noise?
Jessica
More accurately, which milling noise? Edited September 12, 2019 by Jessica
Jessica
A sign that I'm tired today. I thought I wrote "what milling noise" and then wrote another post to "fix" it. I'm going to blame it on the excitement of last night. I have had several different noises in my S, though one was actually a soon to fail linkage bar (I think; brain is tired) that had way too much movement in it. That's one thing I like about working with Pavel is that he will show me the actual part that has failed and explained why it's had to be replaced. Which suggested something funny, though; implies that it's making multiple noises, as many of them now are. The milling noise is the high whine when you use the accelerator. Ask Pavel. At various times in the past year I’ve heard something, and thought, “Oh no! A noise! What broke?” So far it has turned out each time to be something rolling around in the trunk, glovebox, or floor. Of course, after one of those massive storms this past May, I heard sloshing in the "smuggler's hold". That was less than fun.
